This totem unites white, red, & black stoneware with teak, walnut, and birch, stacking handmade ceramic forms between carved wooden blades and orbs. The four-pointed teak form at its center was carved from wood sourced from a third-generation teak farm in Costa Rica, while the base came from a storm-felled tree I cleared from the road and salvaged myself. Created across two landscapes — Costa Rica and Nebraska — the piece carries the material memory of both places, balancing glossy glazed surfaces against the warmth of raw grain.
